## Biography

Dr. Ioannis Souldatos joined the department of Mathematics and Computer Science in 2011. Prior to joining Detroit Mercy, Dr. Souldatos spent three years as an instructor in Mankato, MN, five years as an instructor/teaching fellow/teaching associate/teaching assistant/graduate student in Los Angeles, CA where he obtained his Ph.D. from U.C.L.A., and one year as a visiting student in Melbourne, Australia. He is originally from Athens, Greece.

Dr. Souldatos enjoys teaching any kind of class that falls under the description “pure mathematics”. His teaching style is “Don’t lecture. Ask questions”. He enjoys working with students who know how to ask good questions both in a one-to-one and classroom setting. If you also enjoy Mathematics, ask him and he will find something for you.

Dr. Souldatos specializes in the area of Mathematics known as Mathematical Logic, and in particular Set Theory and Model Theory. Mathematical Logic deals with the mathematical study of *logic*, where logic is understood as “valid ways of reasoning”, as well as the applications of *logic* in other areas of Mathematics and beyond. Mathematical Logic today includes research in Model Theory, Set Theory, Recursion Theory, and Proof Theory, and there are many close connections to Philosophical Logic, Theoretical Computer Science and the Foundations of Mathematics.
