Detroit Mercy’s new accelerated Bachelor of Social Work option aimed at community college transfer students
Information sessions scheduled Sept. 19, Oct. 10, Nov. 14 and Dec. 5 for students interested in learning more!
A new accelerated option offered by University of Detroit Mercy now allows community college transfer students to earn their Bachelor of Social Work in approximately one year starting summer 2023.
The Full-time Accelerated Social Work Transfer (FAST) option is the first of its kind in Michigan. The program features three consecutive semesters of seven-week modules and intersession courses that can be taken online, in-person or a hybrid method. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
“This is the only scheduling option of its kind in Michigan for community college transfer students,” said Janet Joiner, Department of Social Work chair. “We continue to offer our regular semester scheduling option for those who want a traditional academic experience, but our new BSW FAST scheduling option provides students with access to quality, flexible, undergraduate social work education that allows them to do more in less time.”
FAST’s module format makes it possible to complete the Bachelor of Social Work program much faster than traditional programs. Students enrolled in the program can also explore work-site placements and limited online field educational experiences, based on agency availability.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for social workers in 2021 was $50,390 annually. Employment of social workers is projected to grow by 12% from 2020-30, a faster-than-average rate for all occupations.
The first information session is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. via Zoom. Information sessions will also take place on Monday, Oct. 10, Monday, Nov. 14 and Monday, Dec. 5.
