The program, part of the University’s College of Health Professions & McAuley School of Nursing, builds on current coursework offered in both programs and eliminates the need for students in the accelerated-degree program to take undergraduate versions of eight graduate courses.

The accelerated format allows significantly less time needed to obtain a master’s degree and with a maximum workload, it could take fewer semesters, possibly even in four years.

"The accelerated bachelor in Health Services Administration to MHSA degree is an excellent option for both those who are already working in the healthcare sector, as well as those who may be completely new to the medical field," said Maia Platt, associate professor in the Health Services Administration program. "The convenience of evening and online classes allows working students to go through the program without losing their job or income, while also offering the flexibility to enter into the program during any semester."

The HSA program prepares students for a successful career in sectors such as hospitals and health systems management, medical groups, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, care management organizations, health information technology firms, supply chain companies and many others.

Students, ranging from freshmen to transfer students and those with associate degrees from other colleges, are eligible to apply for the program. Transfer students with an associate degree may be able to complete the program in three years.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for medical and health services managers was $104,280 in May 2020. Employment for healthcare administrators is projected to grow by 32% by 2030.
