A message from University of Detroit Mercy President Antoine M. Garibaldi

Dear students, staff and faculty:

I am pleased to announce that Detroit Mercy is planning for a primarily in-person semester for fall 2021. Currently, three-fourths of fall classes at the McNichols Campus are scheduled to be taught in-person or with a mix of face-to-face and virtual instruction with the anticipation that more in-person classes will be offered as we near the fall semester. With safety precautions in place, our goal is to offer a vibrant on-campus experience for our students, staff, and faculty.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have followed state, local, and national guidelines to safeguard the health and safety of our campus community. Early in 2020, the university convened a COVID-19 Task Force responsible for guiding a successful transition to virtual learning. The Task Force enacted policies and procedures to protect our Detroit Mercy community, and also supported staff and faculty as they transitioned to remote work and virtual instruction. The 20-person task force, led by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Pamela Zarkowski, has worked tirelessly to help our students succeed despite the challenges and anxieties caused by the pandemic. We will continue to be vigilant as we monitor health and safety guidelines and work to ensure a safe return to campus.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the return to campus this fall, please submit them through our online form. For additional information regarding health, safety and operational protocols, please visit our Health advisories website

I am looking forward to the fall 2021 semester and the opportunity to be together as a campus community. Thank you for your commitment to caring for your family, friends and colleagues during this historic time.

Sincerely,

Antoine M. Garibaldi, Ph.D.
