Fr. Howard Gray at UDM
Howard Gray, S.J. at UDM, Sept. 11, 2013.

On the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Fr. Howard Gray, S.J. gave a talk on the components of meaningful dialogue, especially inter-religious dialogue.

Fr. Gray discusses the importance of dialogue not just with people of other (or no) belief, but between people generally, and that dialogue should not only be something the Church does, but "becomes." He describes how developing and revealing our personal narratives help us meet others humbly in a shared humanity, so that dialogue results not only in understanding, but in trust, love, justice and peace.

Fr. Gray is introduced by David Nantais, director of University Ministry at UDM.

In 2007, Fr. Gray assumed his current role as assistant to the president for special projects at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, he served in many leadership role in the Society of Jesus including: rector and dean of Weston School of Theology, provincial superior of the Detroit Province, founder and director of the center for Ignatian Spirituality at Boston College, and rector and assistant for Mission and Identity at John Carroll University in Cleveland Ohio.

An extensive writer in areas of Ignatian spirituality and Jesuit mission and ministry, Fr. Gray has given a number of workshops on Ignatian topics in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, East Africa and Australia.
