Grant helps to fund DCDC's Detroit Works Project
The Kellogg Foundation provided grant funding of approximately $300,000 to the Detroit Collaborative Design Center through the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation to allow the DCDC to continue its pivotal work on the Detroit Works Project from July through October. Further funding from the Ford Foundation is expected in 2013 to launch another phase of the work.
TAP Gallery project featured in media
The TAP (The Alley Project) Gallery in Southwest Detroit, founded by Master of Community Development graduate Erik Howard and built by students in the Architecture program, was featured on the Huffington Post (Participatory Design in Detroit Heals a Neighborhood) and was also featured in the esteemed Venice Biennale as part of the "13178 Moran Street" group that exhibited projects from Detroit. This was one of only 17 teams worldwide selected to participate in this global art and architecture exhibition. Most recently, the project was featured in the Forbes online article, "Silicon Mitten is happening: The secret revival of Detroit." (Scroll down to "The Alley Project.")
Lecture Series 2012 / 2013

The upcoming lecture is Tuesday, Dec. 11 and features Etienne Turpin, a lecturer in Architecture at the University of Michigan. Sponsored by Cranbrook Academy of Art, the event will be held at 6 p.m. at the Cranbrook Art Museum De Salle Auditorium. Read about Turpin.

Architectural Design Summer Camp 2013
Date: Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28, 2013
Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This exciting, educational, and, innovative summer program is a one-week commuter camp for high school students interested in gaining exposure to the world of Architecture. Students will be introduced through a variety of hands-on projects to fundamental concepts of architecture, design, and, engineering while working within a university studio environment.
Under the leadership of professors of architecture, individuals will design and model a small scale intervention with emphasis placed on the relationship between form, structure, and the surrounding environment. Each day, projects will evolve through the design process which will include; drawing, model making, field trips, photography, research, and analysis. Students will gain insight into their work through individual and group discussions. By the end of the week, students will have a complete project to take home, which they will present at a reception for all participants and their guests.
Eligibility
Participants must (1) be currently enrolled in the 9th-11th grades during the 2012-2013 academic year, (2) have a minimum GPA of 2.5 with no grades below a D and, (3) have good citizenship/ conduct marks.
Registration Deadline is May 20, 2013. Complete the registration form and provide a copy of the participant's last report card to the University of Detroit Mercy NO LATER THAN May 20, 2013.
Early Registration is strongly encourage to ensure placement into the program. Register before February 25, 2013 and the $50 registration fee will be waived.
Cost
The cost of this program is $300. A $50 nonrefundable registration fee is due upon acceptance into the program. The remaining $250 is due two-weeks prior to the program start date.
