UDM’s AIAS chapter receives top national award
University of Detroit Mercy’s Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) was named the recipient of the 2011 Chapter Honor Award. Each year, the AIAS honors individuals and groups for their exemplary work in areas such as leadership, collaboration, scholarship, and service. The AIAS Honor Awards were developed to publicly recognize outstanding achievements by students, educators and practitioners who have exhibited an exemplary commitment to the education and development of architecture students.
According to a letter from the Honor Awards committee, the jury was impressed with how the UDM chapter has continued to illustrate the importance of the School of Architecture not only within the University but to the larger community as well. Out of all the nominations received, judges believed UDM students were the top chapter as they have improved the quality of life within the School of Architecture and created programs that assist students in becoming well-rounded professionals and leaders.
University of Detroit Mercy’s chapter was named the top chapter at the Grassroots Leadership Conference last July in Washington, D.C. and the AIAS will confer the award officially at the AIAS Forum held from Dec. 29 – Jan. 1 in Phoenix, Ariz.
