Tony Martinico is first Architecture professor to receive Fulbright Award

Professor of Architecture Tony Martinico has been selected to receive a Fulbright Award as a senior lecturer. Martinico will lecture at the Politechnika Warszawska in Warsaw, Poland, for nine months beginning in September. His focus will be architectural history and theory, specifically American architecture and urbanism in the 19th and 20th centuries and architectural theory from 1965 to the present. Martinico is the first faculty member from the School of Architecture to receive a Fulbright Award.

Stephen Vogel presents at ACSA conference in Philadelphia

At the invitation of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), Dean Stephen Vogel presented the workings of the Detroit Collaborative Design Center at the ACSA's annual conference, March 9 in Philadelphia. The topic, "Academia, Civic Engagement and Practice," highlighted the Design Center as an architecture program that engages the intellectual resources of a university with the needs of the greater community.

Amy Deines to teach special studio at Kent State

Associate Professor Amy Deines has been asked by Kent State to teach a special studio in Cleveland this summer. Winy Maas is a studio collaborator and will visit the studio several times during the summer. This invitation resulted from Deines' presentations around the country about her unique work.

Julie Kim and Stephen Vogel serve on accreditation teams

Associate Professor Julie Kim represented the ACSA on an accreditation team that visited Columbia University in New York. This was her first opportunity to be on a team. Dean Vogel was on a team representing the AIA that visited the University of Southern California. This was his fifth team visit.

The UDM SOA will be visited by a team in one year and is making preparations now for the visit. Alumni will be invited to submit projects for an exhibition and to attend a reception with the team. The School is also looking for an alumnus to serve as an observer on the team for a five-day visit. If you are interested, contact Dean Vogel at 313-993-1149 or vogelsp@udmercy.edu.
