Study Abroad students exhibit work
Architecture students show Poland work
An exhibition of work from the School of Architecture's Study Abroad program in Poland was on display in September in the Genevieve Fisk Loranger Architecture Center. In addition to student work, the exhibit included paintings by Adjunct Professor of Architecture Fred Bidigare, an international award winner in watercolors who taught this year's Poland program. School of Architecture Dean Stephen Vogel says, "Our counterparts in Warsaw where thrilled with the work of the American students and stated that this year's class was the 'best ever.'" You can read the experiences of one of the SOA students in Poland on Jake Gehring's Weblog.
Detroit and the walled city
The
School of Architecture's International Program presented the exhibit,
Muro Arte | Arte Muro ("Wall Art | Art Wall"), Sept. 18-22 in the Genevieve Fisk Loranger Architecture Center. After returning from Italy's ancient walled city of Volterra, UDM Study Abroad students created works that reflect on a different kind of wall here in Detroit. Associate Professor of Architecture Amy Green Deines says, "Within Detroit, the 'social wall' has more physical presence than that of a medieval wall. The students' work discusses how design interventions can play a major role in mending the urban fabric of Detroit."
