Menhem Aouad '04 accepted the position of director of special education and student support services with the Madison District Public Schools in Madison Heights, Mich.
James Bearden '72, a partner with Bearden, Lewis & Thomas, LLP law firm in Boca Raton, Fla., was elected to the board of directors for the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre.
Cynthia (Bruce) Canty '75, a member of the CLAE Alumni Board, hosts the weekly radio talk show Stateside with Cynthia Canty on Michigan Radio. The program broadcasts in Ann Arbor on WUOM-FM (91.7). It also broadcasts in Grand Rapids and Flint.
Theodore Coutilish '95 and his wife Mary Beth Langan '87, '99 received the Halstead-Bresnahan Family Award at the 13th Annual International Fragile X Conference in Miami, Fla., July 27. The award recognizes those who make a profound difference to families affected by Fragile X Syndrome.
William J. Giovan '58, a Detroit attorney and former Chief Judge of the Wayne County Circuit Court, was elected chair of the newly formed Wayne County Ethics Board.

Keegan-Michael Key '93 began the second season of his Comedy Central series Key and Peele.
Elmore Leonard, Jr. '50 was awarded the 2012 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters by the National Book Foundation. The award, presented on Nov. 14, 2012 in New York City, recognizes his outstanding achievement in fiction writing.
Bahman Mirshab '75, former dean of UDM's College of Business Administration, was named dean of the College of Management at Lawrence Technological University.

Faye (Alexander) Nelson '75, '80, a member of the UDM Board of Trustees, received the Lifelong Leadership Award during the 2012 Leadership Detroit Awards in October. The award was presented by the Detroit Regional Chamber and Leadership Detroit.
Mary Sclabassi '11 was appointed chief of police for the City of Taylor (Mich.). The appointment marks the first female chief for the Downriver area.
