Fundraising Dinner for new Islamic Studies Program at UDM
Dec. 10, 2011
6 p.m.
Islamic House of Wisdom, Dearborn Heights, Mich.
CLAE is hosting a special fundraising event to generate support to begin a new Islamic Studies Program in the College. The keynote speaker is Scott C. Lucas, associate profesor of Islamic Studies at the University of Arizona.
If enough financial support is generated to begin this program, which is being developed by Imam Achmat Salie, it would focus on the past and present of Islam and its impact on politics, society, and culture and will create community outreach programs on topics related to Islam. The program would expose students to scholarly lectures, lively debates, documentaries, study abroad and real-life experiences and insights into Islamic thought and culture. Arabic language classes would also be available.
