New degree options in Economics expand career opportunities for students
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, as financial institutions grow and commerce and trade become increasingly global, employment prospects for economists are becoming varied and plentiful. With this in mind, the University of Detroit Mercy has developed three new degrees in economics: the Bachelor of Arts in Financial Economics, Master of Arts in Financial Economics and Master of Arts in Economics. The degrees will be offered beginning this fall at Macomb Community College's University Center.
According to the government agency, "overall employment of financial analysts and personal financial advisors is expected to increase faster than average for all occupations through 2014." The wide range of positions available for graduates with degrees in economics includes forecasters, planners and analysts, in the public and private sectors, not-for-profits, law and government, as well as in secondary and higher education.
The UDM degrees are available through three convenient delivery options:
- traditional day and evening in-classroom format
- online courses in seven-week format (two per semester)
- one-week intensive courses using in-classroom format
UDM is one of eight education institutions that offer bachelor's and master's degree programs at Macomb University Center and has been offering classes there since the center's founding in 1991.
