McAuley Health Center to open third location
Early in 2012, UDM’s McAuley Health Center services will be available at a third location in Detroit. The new location, at the Joy-Southfield Health and Education Center on the west side, will focus on pediatric primary care. This service was formerly offered at Joy-Southfield by Juanita Reaves Free Clinic and Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
With this third location, MHC will nearly double the number of patients served annually, and also continue to increase nursing students’ experiences in the city of Detroit.
Said MHC Project Director and Professor of Nursing Carla Groh, “We’re really excited about the third location because we’ll be providing specifically pediatric services, for which there is such a need. We’ll be helping a population that is generally under-served. We are also looking forward to working with students from the Nursing and other CHP programs at this location.”
The main MHC site, Mercy Primary Care Center, is located at 5555 Conner, Suite 2691, in Detroit’s Samaritan Center, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The second location is in Schulze School at 10700 Santa Maria and serves the community on Tuesday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Both locations offer a variety of services such as physical examinations, assessment and treatment of acute and chronic health problems, immunizations, health screenings and health and wellness education. All services are provided by McAuley Health Center nurse practitioners. For more information, visit the McAuley Health Center online.
