Martina Kuechle Scholarship established
A new scholarship program for Nursing students has been established to honor the memory of former CHP Director of Academic Affairs Martina Kuechle. The Martina Kuechle Nursing Scholarship will be awarded annually to nursing students who exemplify in the classroom the teamwork and collaboration that Kuechle demonstrated in life.
Martina “Marty” Kuechle was a member of the UDM community over a period spanning almost 40 years. Her service was University-wide; she worked in the Office of Admissions, the College of Business Administration, and at the University’s satellite campus in Clarkston. She worked in CHP for 18 years on both the Outer Drive and McNichols campuses. As CHP director of Academic Affairs, her care, commitment and dedication to students and staff became legendary. CHP faculty and staff lovingly remember her warm welcoming manner, enthusiastic smile, and willingness to live the mission of the University on campus and in the community.
In 2003, Kuechle was awarded the University’s Mission Leadership Award for her commitment to compassion and justice in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions. After her passing in September 2008, her colleagues and her family wanted to continue her giving spirit and established a scholarship in her honor.
