College of Health Professions Simulation Practice and Technology Integration Center Coordinator Suzanne Guzelaydin gave the presentation, "Getting started with simulation: formulating a business plan and finding funding," at the 12th International Nursing Learning Resource Center Conference in June in San Jose, Calif. Guzelaydin was also a program planner for the 2008 fall conference of the Intravenous Nurse Society, Great Lakes Chapter, held Oct. 9.

Nursing Instructor Suzanne Keep's poster was accepted for the MNRS Annual Conference in March 2009. The abstract is titled "Academic Integrity of Nursing Students" and the session is on Nursing Education.

Assistant Professor of the Physician Assistant Program Debra Knight was featured March 11 on WXYZ-TV Channel 7 discussing the effects of a brain infection that caused her to lose her memory.

Associate Professor of Nursing Linda Thiel's poster, "Breast Health of Latino/Hispanic Women Aged 65 and Over," has been accepted for presentation at the MNRS conference in March 2009. Also, Thiel's article, "Breast Health of U.S. Women Religious (Nuns)," was published in the Oct. 2008 issue of The Breast Journal.

Associate Professor of Nursing Linda Thiel and Nursing Instructor Suzanne Keep gave the presentation, "Creating Scientific Posters" at Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon in September and October 2008.

Associate Professor Mitzi Saunders authored two recently published articles: "Factors associated with caregiver burden in heart failure family caregivers," in Western Journal of Nursing Research (December 2008 issue) and "Family caregiver support and hospitalizations of patients with heart failure," in Home Healthcare Nurse (November/December issue).

Associate Professor of Extended Nursing Maureen Anthony received a Writer's Award from MEDSURG Nursing Journal for her article, "Hypoglycemia in Hospitalized Patients."

Nursing Instructor Lori Glenn presented the poster, "One Nurse Midwife's Cautionary Tale: Recognizing Vulnerabilities and Fortifying Our Practice to Achieve Distinctive Parity: The Impact of DNP," to the first annual Doctors of Nursing Practice Conference, held in October in Memphis, Tenn.

Assistant Professor of Nursing Judith Mouch, RSM, presented the pre-conference workshop, "And the greatest of these is: Advocacy," at the 22nd annual Westberg Symposium in St. Louis, Sept. 12th. The symposium was sponsored by the International Parish Nurse Resource Center.

The book by Associate Professor of Nursing Carla Groh and former Professor of Nursing Joan Urbancic, Women's Mental Health: A Clinical Guide for Primary Care Practitioners, has been published. Several UDM faculty have contributed chapters including Associate Professors of Physician Assistant Suzanne York and Sharon Moser and Associate Professor of Family Nurse Practitioner Janet Baiardi.

Assistant Professor of Nursing Tricia Thomas gave presentations last summer to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Covenant Health System, and Henry Ford Health System. Thomas also wrote the article, "Case management delivery models: the impact of indirect care givers on organizational outcomes," published in the January 2009 Journal of Nursing Administration.

Suzanne York, associate professor and chair, Physician Assistant Program, has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants for her outstanding contributions to the profession during her 26 years as a PA and educator.
