Nurse Anesthesiology Associate Professor and Program Chair Michael Dosch submitted a 4th edition of his book chapter on the anesthesia gas machine to a prominent text in the field. His original research article on attrition in graduate nurse anesthesia education was accepted for publication. Dosch was also named a member of the national task force on Doctoral Preparation of Nurse Anesthetists of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Suzanne Guzelaydin, coordinator, Simulation Practice and Technology Integration Center, gave the presentation, "Getting Started with Enhancing Techknowlogy Integration into Healthcare Curriculum: Leading the Way to Excellence in Practice & Education," at the Michigan Nursing Summit in August. She also was named an external reviewer for the NLN Laerdal SIRC Project-External Review.
Petra Hurt, Nurse Anesthesia clinical coordinator, received the Guiding Light Award from the Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists for excellence in education and teaching skills.
Assistant Professors of Nursing Bonnie Korn and Tricia Thomas gave the presentation, "Integrating the IOM Core Competencies into Nursing Curriculum," at the Michigan Summit held in August. Thomas also presented the seminar, "Coping with the Fear of Chronic Disease," to the Michigan Chapter of the Scleroderma Foundation, April 15, and the poster, "Case Management: A Full Immersion Model: Examining Care Delivery Models," at the national Case Management Association meeting in April.
Dean of the College of Health Professions Suzanne Mellon co-authored the article, "Concerns and recommendations regarding inherited cancer risk: the perspectives of survivors and female relatives," which was recently published in the Journal of Cancer Education.
LuAnn Nowak, assistant professor of Nursing, will have her manuscript, "A Descriptive Qualitative Analysis of Sundowning," published later this year by Journal of Nursing Scholarship. Nowak also presented the poster, "A Study to Examine the Effects of Timed Blue-Green Light on Sleep-Wake Patterns in Females with Alzheimer's Disease," in July at the third Congress of the International Society for Behavioral and Cognitive Disorders, in San Antonio, Texas and in September at the fifth World Congress of the World Federation of Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine Societies, in Cairns, Australia.
Assistant Professor of Health Services/Health Services Administration Maia Platt presented the paper, "Estimating Mental Health / Substance Abuse Parity Costs: Do Deductibles Matter?" at the sixth World Congress on Health Economics "Explorations in Health," in Copenhagen, Denmark on July 9.
Todd Ray, assistant professor of Health Services Administration, was elected chair of the Faculty Forum on Distance Education for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
Assistant Professor Julia Stocker-Schneider gave the presentation, "Nursing informatics education for nursing students," at the Michigan Nursing Summit in August.
Nutrena Tate, associate professor of Nursing, gave the presentation, "Complementary Alternative Medicine and Chronic Pain: Sickle Cell Anemia, Muscular Sclerosis, & Chronic Back Pain," at the 30th annual Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. Middlewest Regional Conference in Detroit, in April, and the presentation, "Providing Culturally Sensitive Nursing Interventions to Urban Dwelling Families," at the 59th Annual Chi Eta Phi Sorority International Conference in Crystal City, Va. in July.
Roberta Thomas, assistant professor of Nursing at the Grand Rapids location, recently received her Ph.D. after successfully defending her dissertation, "A study to determine the needs of family caregivers of persons with cancer."
