Academic Programs
The College of Engineering & Science launched the new Bachelor of Robotics and Mechatronic Systems Engineering program in September 2012. The program focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to design new and "intelligent" systems/products. Such intelligent systems include not only robots, but also modern intelligent automobiles, airplanes, defense systems, assisting devices, and a wide variety of other systems such as appliances, games and entertainment systems. Learn more about the degree program on the Engineering & Science site.

The Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics program was re-launched as an entirely online program in Fall 2012. Designed for graduate students interested in teaching mathematics at the K-12 level, the program offers a unique blend of math, math pedagogy and education. The program is also one of five programs to be offered at the Wayne County Community College District University Center in Harper Woods, beginning January 2013. For more information on the UDM programs at WCCCD University Center, visit www.udmercy.edu/wcccd or call 800-635-5020. Additional programs are offered at the Macomb University Center in Clinton Township; for details, visit UDM's Macomb University Center page.
A proposal for a Master of Environmental Engineering is being reviewed by the E&S Curriculum and Standards Committee (2012) for consideration as a future degree program.
A contract was signed for a 3+1 program for a Bachelor of Engineering with a focus on Vehicle Engineering with YCIT in China with the potential for 26 students per year starting in Fall 2015.

Tech Day highlights engineering, science and technology
About 865 students from 22 high schools participated in the College's 2012 Technology Awareness Day, Oct. 19, to make it a resounding success. Tech Day is an annual event to encourage student interest in the fields of science and engineering through friendly student competitions, exciting demonstrations and a display of the latest in automotive technologies. After the competition activities, student competition winners were awarded plaques celebrating their success by E&S Dean Gary Kuleck. Tech Day was made possible by the efforts of the Director of Pre-College Programs Pamela Todd, Pre-College DAPCEP Director Arneshia Arnold, and a host of dedicated volunteers, including more than 200 UDM engineering and science students. The event would not have been possible without the generous contributions of industry sponsors, including the Chrysler Corporation, DENSO Corporation, the Ford Motor Company, and BASF-The Chemical Company. Events such as Tech Day help to inspire the next generation of high school students to consider careers in science and engineering and obtain degrees in these fields, specifically here at UDM. Students enjoy games and demonstrations during the 2012 Tech Day, including a catapult activity.
Additional Updates
In the past three years the college developed several new K-12 outreach programs (summer camps: NSF funded "STAR" robotics, DOT funded "TRANSIT", Ford-funded Innovation Camp and the Architectural Camp). During that time, the 13 Engineering & Science K-12 programs served more than 14,000 pre-college students.
In Fall 2012, UDM expanded its DAPCEP Saturday programs to include 12 courses, serving 650 metropolitan Detroit area minority students.
The LEGO NXT Robotics Afterschool Program was developed in partnership with the Mechanical Engineering Department assisted by UDM engineering students.
