Grant to support IGVC Team

Judges watch UDM team members prepare their autonomous vehicle during the 2012 IGVC.
Led by Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering Mark Paulik, the College received a grant from the Ford Blue Oval Colleges Vehicle Challenge, created by the Ford Fund to support Autonomous Ground Vehicle Teams. The funding will be used to assist the UDM International Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) student team in designing and constructing its autonomous vehicle for competition.
With this support as well as support from other corporate sponsors such as the DENSO Corporation, student teams hope to continue their recent success garnering first place honors (2008, 2009, 2010) in IGVC competitions against prestigious competitors. In June, the College IGVC Team placed first in the 2012 Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) Challenge of the International Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC). The JAUS facilitates interoperability of unmanned systems exerting external control through a standard messaging system.
