American Chemistry Society recognizes UDM Chem Club

The American Chemistry Society (ACS) selected UDM's student chapter of the ACS to receive an Outstanding Award in recognition for its 2011-2012 activities. As an outstanding chapter, the UDM Chem Club is among the top 15 percent of student chapters nationally. Assistant Professor Kendra Evans and Associate Professor Matthew Mio of the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department were commended as faculty advisors of the chapter. According to ASC President Bassam Shakhashiri, their efforts "represent the best in undergraduate science education and mentoring around the country. …The students and Professors Mio and Evans (set) a fine example for other chapters and being exemplary chemistry ambassadors."  The chapter will be honored at the national ASC meeting in New Orleans, La. on April 7, 2013.
