Annual golf outing tees off July 12
UDM's College of Engineering & Science invites all golf enthusiasts to participate in its seventh annual E&S Golf Outing to be held on Monday, July 12 at Fox Hills Country Club in Plymouth.
The fund raising event, which is co-sponsored by Soil Mechanical Engineers, will support E&S student scholarships and organizations. The event includes 18 holes of golf, use of a golf cart and driving range, and a $10,000 Hole in One contest. Sponsorship opportunities, ranging from $250 to $2,000, are still available.

Engineering to celebrate centennial
During the 2011-2012 academic year, the Engineering programs will celebrate the 100th anniversary of their inception on Oct. 11, 1911. The College will plan a variety of activities and events to mark this academic achievement. Please plan on attending the Centennial Gala during the weekend of Sept. 30 – Oct. 2, 2011 (exact date to be determined) to celebrate with fellow Engineering alumni and friends of the College.
Also, if you have memorabilia, photographs or other historic engineering information to include in a special anniversary display, please forward materials to:

Or e-mail materials to hanifinl@udmercy.edu. Look for more details about the centennial celebration in the next issue of Impact.
Construction Materials Lab undergoes renovation
Renovation is nearing completion on the Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering's Construction Materials Lab. The renovation, which was funded by a $25,000 grant from the Charles Pankow Foundation, includes refurbishing cabinetry and wall space, updating electrical circuitry, upgrading the lab, and providing new equipment and storage areas.
According to Department Chair and Architectural Engineering Professor Alan Hoback, the lab was last renovated during the 1960s, and although equipment was updated and added, the lab became crowded and cluttered. "It's important to be able to show prospective students a more modern Construction Materials Lab to spark their interest in construction as a career option," he adds.
The lab renovation is scheduled for completion this summer.
E&S to hold pre-college summer camps
The College of Engineering & Science will host two summer camps for high school students this year, STEPS and TRANSIT. STEPS is a one-week residential camp for girls currently in the 9th to 11th grades, covering robotics, manufacturing, engineering, programming, math and science. The STEPS camp will run June 20-25, 2010. For more information, visit the STEPS page.
TRANSIT is a one-week commuter program exploring the world of transportation. It is open to any high school student currently in the 9th through 11th grades. TRANSIT will run July 26-30, 2010. Visit the TRANSIT page for more information. To request a brochure/application, please contact Director of Pre-College Programs Dan Maggio at maggiodd@udmercy.edu.
