Synergy of projects evident
Research in prognostics and vehicle reliability being done in several UDM programs has great potential for improving the reliability of products designed and produced by automotive companies and suppliers, says E&S Dean Leo Hanifin. He sees "considerable synergy" between research in conjunction with the U.S. Army Tank and Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), other activities at UDM and the auto industry.
TARDEC, based in Warren, Mich., funds a program using UDM's mechanical and electrical/computer engineering expertise to help develop smarter, more communicative and more reliable military vehicles.
"The TARDEC-sponsored research in the 'next generation network' is directly relevant to the work of the Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) Consortium and the VII-related work of the Michigan Ohio University Transportation Center, which is led by UDM," he says. Hanifin anticipates continued collaboration with other universities working in related areas and with the auto industry.
