Annual golf outing tees off July 16
UDM's College of Engineering & Science invites all golf enthusiasts to participate in its fourth annual E&S Golf Outing to be held on Monday, July 16 at Shenandoah Golf Club in West Bloomfield.
The fund-raising event, which is supported by corporate sponsors and donations, will assist E&S student scholarships and organizations. The event includes 18 holes of golf, use of a golf cart and range balls, two golf contests, plus awards, prizes, raffle and a live auction. Sponsorship opportunities, ranging from $250 for hole sponsor to $2,500 for birdie sponsor, are still available.
Cost to play is $125 each ($500/foursome) and includes a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start time and open bar from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hot dogs will be available "at the turn," while a steak dinner concludes the event. You do not need a foursome to play and may make a contribution if you cannot attend. Payment (major credit cards are accepted) is required with your reservations by June 29. For more information, call Melanie Dara at 313-993-1218 or e-mail daramc@udmercy.edu. Reservation form is available on the E&S site.

Freshmen encouraged to use tablet computer, software this fall
Because today's engineering and science students must utilize advanced computational skills to receive a comprehensive educational experience, the College of Engineering & Science has strongly recommended that engineering and science freshmen purchase a tablet computer for their studies beginning fall term.
According to E&S Dean Leo Hanifin, the tablet computer and designated software package will ensure that students have the necessary tools to coincide with current engineering or science methods and faculty teaching techniques.
The University has negotiated an affordable hardware and software package to assist students in acquiring the tablet computer and software.
"We feel it is important for students to integrate advanced computing into their learning so they can reach their goals in becoming the best engineer, scientist or medical professional," adds Hanifin.
