Fr. Mascarenhas
Mascarenhas selected for top faculty award
Each year, UDM faculty selects one to three of their peers to receive University Faculty Excellence Awards. These individuals are selected because they possess the qualities and skills that best exemplify the body of faculty at University of Detroit Mercy. Qualities include excellence in teaching and scholarly endeavors; service to others; and active involvement in the University, their profession, and their community. They also engage in personal and professional activities that express the University mission.
This year, Oswald A. J. Mascarenhas, S.J. , Charles Kellstadt Chair of Marketing, received the Distinguished Faculty Award at a Nov. 7 reception. The award committee noted Mascarenhas' passion for creative and innovative teaching and venturing into new academic programs and strong advocacy of intercollegiate teaching and research.
As Kaufman Fellows of Entrepreneurship, Mascarenhas and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering Jonathan Weaver, created and twice team-taught new courses, Creativity and Innovation and Backward and Forward Innovation Management.
Mascarenhas heads the Graduate Program of Business Turnaround and Transformation Management (BTM), which he has spearheaded since 2002. He has authored over 50 articles in scholarly marketing journals and four academic texts, with two more on the way: Business Turnaround Management: Transformation Strategies (Roval 2009), and Business Turnaround Management: Ethical Imperatives (Roval 2010).
The committee concluded, "Mascarenhas has vowed commitment to students, academic excellence, urban revitalization, and priestly ministry. He is a great asset to UDM. We all treasure his contributions."
