Greg Cascione
Cascione
Greg Cascione, Ph.D., formerly director of Development for the College of Business Administration, has been appointed associate vice president for Development for the University of Detroit Mercy. Cascione is responsible for all development activities within the University.

Ken Kuna
Kuna
Ken Kuna has been appointed associate dean for External Affairs for the College of Business Administration. Kuna will be responsible for development activities for the College and for assisting the dean in achieving his vision for the College, especially with the Business Turnaround and Transformation Management Program.

Scholarship news

The Chrysler Foundation has provided two scholarships to CBA students. The College is pleased to award the Chrysler Fund MBA Association Scholarship to Angela Ambrosia and the Chrysler Fund Scholarship to John Chirco. Congratulations to both students and thank you to The Chrysler Foundation.

Faculty news

Two long-time CBA faculty members have elected to retire this year:

Michael Whitty, Ph.D.

Whitty, a professor of Management and Labor Relations, joined the University of Detroit in 1967. He taught management, organizational behavior, international management, and collective bargaining.  He provides local and national media with expertise on labor and management topics, including the automotive industry, and is known to some as "Dr. Detroit"—a nickname indicative of his dedication to the city. He has published many papers and books and is noted for his work on spirituality in the workplace. Whitty holds an A.B. from the University of Detroit, an M.A. from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University.

Larry Bossman, Ph.D.

An associate professor of Management, Bossman joined the University of Detroit in 1971. Prior to joining the University, he was on the corporate personnel staff of General Motors Corporation. Bossman taught management motivation, organizational leadership, and management development, and his research focused on educational outcome assessment. He served as department chair of business administration, associate dean of graduate business programs, and director of the Business Institute. Bossman also served as consultant/evaluator for the North Central Association's Commission on Institute of Higher Education. Bossman earned his bachelor's degree at Marquette University and M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin.

An editorial by Professor of Marketing Michael Bernacchi was published this past summer in the Detroit Free Press.  The article, "Event needs to remarket itself with a worldwide vision," focused on the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Charles T. Fisher III Business Ethics Chair and Professor of Management Gerald F. Cavanagh, S.J., is the author of American Business Values: A Global Perspective, 5th edition, published by Prentice Hall in 2006.

Suk Hi Kim, professor of Business Administration, co-edited the book, Economic Sanctions against a Nuclear North Korea, published in August by McFarland & Company Publishers. The Korea Times, one of the two daily English newspapers in Korea, published its review of this book on its site. Kim is also the co-author of Global Corporate Finance, 6th edition, and Financial Management, 4th edition.

Mary Ann Hazen, professor of Business Administration, gave the presentation, "Teaching Diversity in MBA Programs: Diversity in Management and Marketing," Aug. 5 at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management in Philadelphia.  At the same meeting, Hazen also served as chair for the session, "Narrative, Metaphor, and Discourse," Aug. 7.

Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Marketing Oswald A. J. Mascarenhas, S. J., is the author of the recently-published book, Responsible Marketing: Concepts, Theories, Models, Strategies and Cases, 1st edition.

Dan Shoemaker, professor of Computer and Information Systems, is the co-author of Information Assurance for the Enterprise, A Roadmap to Information Security, published by McGraw-Hill in September, 2007.
