Professor of Mangement and Charles T. Fisher Chair of Business Ethics Gerald Cavanagh, S.J., chaired a session, "Problems and Promise of Triple Bottom Line Accounting," at the conference Business Ethics in a Global World: China, India and Beyond. Sponsored by Santa Clara University, the conference attracted 160 scholars and business executives from 25 countries. In addition, Fr. Cavanagh has been elected to the Board of Trustees of Loyola University, New Orleans. His article, published eight years ago, "A Spirituality for Managers: Context and Critique," was recently listed as the second most cited article by other scholars in the rapidly growing management and spirituality literature.

Mary Ann Hazen, professor of Management, has been appointed associate editor of the Journal of Management Education, a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Sage, and associate editor of the North Korean Journal.

Dan Shoemaker, professor of Computer and Information Systems, and Dan Kennedy, professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice, recently authored the chapter, "Criminal Profiling and Cybercriminal Investigations," which will appear in an edited text to be published by Prentice-Hall. Shoemaker is also co-author of two recently published articles: "Models for Assessing the Cost and Value of Software Assurance," published on the web site of the National Cyber Security Division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and "Producing Alignment Savvy CIOs," published in Cutter IT Journal. In addition, McGraw-Hill published Information Assurance For The Enterprise: A Roadmap To Information Security, a textbook co-authored by Shoemaker.

Finally, the Michigan Homeland Security Consortium (MIHSC) has awarded Shoemaker the MIHSC SELECT Education Award. The award honors individuals whose leadership, innovative thinking and dedicated efforts have advanced the Homeland Security industry in Michigan.

Professor of Management and Labor Relations Mike Whitty will publish a chapter on moral philosophy and business ethics in a reader on Critical Theory, Business and Administrative Ethics. Also, the second edition of a textbook Whitty co-authored, At Work, Spirituality Matters (Biberman and Whitty, Scranton Press 2007) was published in January. He is also the co-author of the paper, "Critical Spirituality, Moral Philosophy and Business Ethics," which was accepted by The Journal of the North American Management Society. In recent months, he has given presentations on "Preventing War: The Case for a Policy Reconciliation with North Korea and Iran," "Ageing into Sageing: Becoming a Spiritual Elder," and from his published paper, "Speaking Truth to Theocracy."

Whitty also accompanied a volunteer group of CBA and MBA students who cleaned up a section of Woodward Avenue near Palmer Park Golf Course as part of a nationwide community service day by people from Jesuit colleges and universities.

Larry Zeff, professor of Management, has been appointed to the editorial board of Journal of Business Management and Change as associate editor of Organizational Theory.
