Larceny From Building

Date: September 27, 2012

Location: On Campus / McNichols Campus

McNichols Campus — University of Detroit Mercy Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a larceny that occurred on September 27, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.  in the School of Architecture at the McNichols Campus.  

A university student reported that her laptop had been stolen from the school of Architecture.  The student observed the suspect who is described as an unknown Black male, age 30 – 35, thin build, 6’2”, short black hair, short beard, medium complexion – last seen wearing a green cotton jacket with collar, dark jeans and tan timberland boots.  The suspect fled east bound on Florence Street.  ,

Public Safety is asking the community to be vigilant of your surroundings and others who appear to be waiting without a purpose.  Anyone witnessing or having information about this incident is asked to contact UDM Public Safety at (313) 993-1123 and speak with the platoon supervisor.

How you can help

Report all suspicious activity to Public Safety at (313) 993-1123 that is observed from your office or dorm window.

Be mindful of persons who appear to be loitering.

Take notice of the clothing, gender and race to help officers locate the person of concern.

Take notice of the vehicles nearby the suspicious person.

Follow DPS safety tips and when in doubt call us out to investigate further.


Safety Tips

If you see a suspect, do not approach--call Public Safety.

Always lock your vehicle doors, roll up windows and close your sun roof when leaving your car.

Place valuables in the trunk or take them with you.

Utilize the campus escort policy or walk with others if you feel uncomfortable.

Limit the use of devices that distract you while you are walking to and from your car (Ex. Text messaging, iPods).

Have your keys in hand so you are ready to open the car door immediately.

Do not prop open doors.
