Larceny From Person

Date: March 31, 2013

Location: Off Campus / McNichols - Livernois near Grove

McNichols Campus– The University of Detroit Mercy Public Safety Department is investigating a larceny from person that occurred at the McNichols Campus at 6:10 PM on March 31, 2013.  Two UDM students were walking northbound when the perpetrator approached them from behind and grabbed a wallet from one of the student’s hands.  The perpetrator then fled westbound across Livernois.    



The perpetrator is described as a Black Male 20-25 years of age, 6’0” tall, weighing 150 pounds wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.



DPS will continue to provide the community with security and safety information through safety notices and updates on the DPS web site.  

How you can help

  • Report all suspicious activity to Public Safety at (313) 993-1123 that is observed from your office or dorm window.

  • Be mindful of persons who appear to be loitering.

  • Take notice of the clothing, gender and race to help officers locate the person of concern.

  • Take notice of the vehicles nearby the suspicious person.

  • Follow DPS safety tips and when in doubt call us out to investigate further.

  • Make sure your keys are secure when they are not on your person


    Utilize the campus escort policy or walk with others when possible.

  • On campus emergencies call Public Safety (313) 993-1123

  • Off campus emergencies call 9-1-1

  • Do not carry large amounts of cash

  • Do not count your cash in view of others

  • Be aware of your surroundings and others around you at all times.

  • Limit the use of devices that distract you while you are walking (Ex. Text messaging, iPods).

  • Do not keep your vehicle registration and insurance in an unattended vehicle.
