Detroit — Oct. 22, 2014 — A consortium of University of Detroit Mercy, Marygrove College, Wayne County Community College District and Wayne State University has been awarded $21.2 million over five years by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to implement a program encouraging more undergraduate students from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue careers in biomedical research.

UDM Receives $2 Million in Gifts and Grants to Help Students through Scholarships, Co-ops and Fellowship Positions

The School of Architecture and the College of Engineering & Science at University of Detroit Mercy received grants totaling $2 million to support students through scholarships, paid internships (co-op) and fellowship positions. The gifts are from UDM alumnus Warren Loranger '51, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Mary G. Stange Charitable Trust.

Summer Initiative Gives Aspiring Dentists Chance to Brush Up on Academic and Job Skills - The Michigan Area Health Education Center’s (AHEC) Southeast Regional Center and the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) School of Dentistry have teamed up to offer aspiring dental students the chance to brush up on their academic, job readiness, and networking skills this summer. The Summer Enrichment Program at the University of Detroit Mercy is a free, six-week initiative that will run from Monday, May 19 through Friday, June 27, 2014. Its purpose is to expose students to careers in dentistry, increase the number of disadvantaged students pursuing dental careers, and help students become successful dental school applicants.

Neil LaBute's sophisticatedly structured drama This Is How It Goes continues the UDM Theatre Company's season. Directed by Greg Grobis, This Is How It Goes runs November 15, 16, 22, 23 at 8 p.m. and November 17 and 24 at 2 p.m. at the Marygrove Theatre (8425 W McNichols Rd., Detroit). LaBute unblinkingly challenges the notions of gender, ethnicity and even love itself in this fast paced 90-minute play which is unpredictable at every turn.
