University of Detroit Mercy Board of Trustees names three new members
University of Detroit Mercy Board of Trustees recently welcomed three new members: Emil J. Brolick ’69, ’72, retired president and CEO, The Wendy’s Corporation, Mary M. Fisher, D.D.S. ’81, dentist and Eric J. Stanczak, Jr. ’93, chief engineer for full size trucks, General Motors Company.
Emil J. Brolick recently retired from his role as president and CEO of The Wendy’s Company, which he has held since September 2011. Prior to The Wendy’s Company, he was chief operating officer of Yum! Brands, Inc. and president of two of Yum! Brands, Inc. U.S. operating companies; Long John Silver’s and A&W All American Food Restaurants from June 2008 to September 2011. From 2006 to June 2008, Brolick served as president of U.S. Brand Building for Yum! Brands, Inc. and from July 2000 to November 2006 was president and chief concept officer of Taco Bell.
Brolick earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Economics in 1969 and 1972, respectively, from University of Detroit. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Wendy’s Company and is a life member of the National Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He and his wife, Maureen, reside in Leland, Michigan.
Mary M. Fisher has been practicing dentistry in the West Bloomfield area since 1981. Fisher established a mobile practice, Michigan Geriatric Dental Care, in an effort to better serve the geriatric and homebound population in metropolitan Detroit. Since 1987, she has partnered with Premier Healthcare Management in providing dental care to William Beaumont Hospital Affiliates’ extended area facilities.
Additionally, Fisher is a member of the Oakland County Dental Society, the Michigan Dental Association and its Forensic Dental Identification Team, the American Dental Association and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She is a member of Colgate Oral Health Advisors (COHA) and serves on the board of directors for Motor City Lyric Opera.
Fisher is a graduate of Gesu Elementary School (across the street from University of Detroit Mercy) and Rochester High School. She graduated from Oakland University before attending University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1981. She and her husband, Gordon Follmer, a University of Detroit alumnus, reside in Hartland, Michigan with their nine children and 14 grandchildren.
Eric Stanczak is the chief engineer for Full Size Trucks at General Motors Company. He is responsible for engineering, development and total product line profitability for full-size pickups and sport utility vehicles. He has held a number of executive positions within General Motors, including program director for Global Accessories, purchasing director for Global Infotainment and Telematics and director, Chassis Engineering for General Motors Europe.
Committed to lifelong learning and education, he has been active in education at GM, currently serving on the selection committee for the Technical Education Program. He was the former executive champion for the graduate certificate in Design for Customer Value and Market Success from Stanford University and volunteers on a regular basis through General Motors in activities and other Detroit revitilization projects such as Habitat for Humanity and the Cody Rouge Project. He also enjoys mentoring and volunteering at career development events and recruiting.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Detroit in 1993, where he was a four-year letter winner and captain of the baseball team. Stanczak was awarded a General Motors Fellowship and obtained his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1999. He and his wife are the proud parents of three children and reside in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
