UDM To Host Civil Engineering Conference
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) University of Detroit Mercy Student Chapter will host the organization’s 2014 North Central Student Conference March 28-30, 2014, marking the first time the conference will be held at UDM.
Three hundred civil engineering students representing 10 universities across Michigan and Ohio are expected to attend. They’ll have the opportunity to showcase their engineering skills as they compete against each other in concrete canoe, steel bridge, technical paper and mystery design events. The steel bridge competition and concrete canoe aesthetics judging will take place at Calihan Hall on UDM’s McNichols Campus, but the actual canoe races will occur on Sunday, March 30 at Belle Isle.
When they’re not competing, the students will attend presentations and hear from noted engineering speakers, including John Frauenhoffer, P.E., who will discuss forensic engineering. There will also be multiple opportunities for networking.
