America Magazine Associate Editor to Speak At UDM
Kerry Weber, associate editor of the national Catholic weekly America Magazine will visit University of Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in the Student Center, Fountain Lounge on the McNichols Campus to talk with students on modern faith. She’ll also discuss her new book, Mercy in the City: How to Feed the Hungry, Give Drink to the Thirsty, Visit the Imprisoned, and Keep Your Day Job.
A graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York, the former Mercy volunteer served a year as a special-education teacher in St. Michaels, Ariz., on the Navajo Nation and has written for numerous Catholic magazines throughout the United States. “Her Mercy and Jesuit background makes a good combination for our students,” said David Nantais, director of University Ministry. “Kerry will also speak to our students about the everyday struggles of being a modern, young, social person while maintaining a faith-filled, spiritual life.”
The University of Detroit Mercy is Michigan’s largest, private Catholic University with more than 100 academic majors and programs. Sponsored by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) and the Sisters of Mercy, the University has campuses located in downtown and northwest Detroit.
