UDM Names Angelo Vitale and Nancy Susick to Board of Trustees

University of Detroit Mercy welcomes two new members to the Board of Trustees: Angelo Vitale of Quicken Loans and Nancy Susick of Beaumont Health Systems.

Angelo Vitale is vice president and corporate counsel for Quicken Loans (1997-present). He joined the company (then known as Rock Financial) as its deputy corporate counsel. In addition to his managing counsel responsibilities, Vitale specializes in the areas of commercial real estate leasing, enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance and fair lending. He is a member of the company’s senior leadership team as well as its Audit and Risk team.

Prior to joining Quicken Loans, Vitale served as senior counsel for Source One Mortgage Services where he managed complex national class-action litigation involving a variety of residential mortgage loan origination and servicing practices.

Vitale began his legal career as an associate attorney with Harvey, Kruse, Weston and Milan, a mid-size Detroit law firm specializing in insurance defense litigation. Angelo earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit (B.A., 1980) and his law degree from Wayne State University (J.D., 1983).

Nancy A. Susick, M.S.N., R.N., is senior vice president of Beaumont Health Systems and president of Beaumont Hospital, Troy. She oversees the operations of the 418-bed Troy hospital and its ambulatory, diagnostic and surgery centers.

Prior to her appointment as president in April 2012, she was vice president, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Beaumont, Troy, responsible for operations and nursing practice. She chaired the hospital's Magnet Committee and Nurse Executive Leadership Council and numerous operation councils. Under her leadership, Beaumont, Troy achieved Magnet designation, the highest recognition for nursing excellence.

Susick has been a registered nurse since 1986 and has held various staff, nursing leadership and administrative positions at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and Troy, since 1986. She recently retired from the United States Navy Reserve, holding the rank of Captain after 24 years of service.

Susick earned a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Oakland University (M.S.N, 1997) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit (B.S., 1986). Susick is a member of the Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives, the American College of Health Care Executives and the Naval Reserve Association.
