UDM Dental and Children’s ToothFairy Foundation To Celebrate Partnership
The University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and Clinic and the Children’s ToothFairy Foundation (CTFF), a 501c3 non-profit organization founded by WDIV Local 4 reporter, Paula Tutman will celebrate their collaboration at the UDM dental school tonight, Thursday, September 27 at 6 p.m. There will be a public reception at UDM’s Corktown campus, 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Detroit.
More than 100 million Americans never go to the dentist because they cannot afford dental care. According to a recent study from the Kaiser Family Foundation, one in four children have untreated tooth decay, now the most common chronic illness among school-aged children. With the ToothFairy Foundation’s help, more than 400 children have received the dental care they needed this year but couldn't afford.
The UDM School of Dentistry and CTFF will continue to provide basic, emergency, comprehensive and preventative dental care to uninsured children.
“We’ve met a lot of children and placed dental care within their reach,” says Tutman. “Advanced students at the dental school need to provide patient care to graduate and thousands of uninsured children in this area need care. Through the foundation, dental and hygiene students are able to provide quality care under the supervision of their instructors while being indoctrinated into a system of responsibility to their community,” she added.
Tonight’s ribbon cutting event is open to the public. For more information on ToothFairy Foundation, visit http://childrenstoothfairyfoundation.org or call 248-855-4227.
