UDM Hosts 22nd Annual “Safety Street”
Pounds of Snickers, Milky Way, Hershey, and Twix bars will be handed out to brave little goblins and ghouls visiting University of Detroit Mercy for the 22nd annual “Safety Street.” The fun and safe “trick or treating” environment will be held on Friday, Oct. 28th at 4:00 p.m. in the Student Center Fountain Lounge on the McNichols campus.

Founded by the School of Architecture, "Safety Street" has grown into a campus-wide event, bringing the University community and neighborhood together for an exciting day of fun for everyone involved. Students, faculty and staff all contribute treats for the gathering, donating hundreds of pounds of candy for a spooky and fun "trick or treat" experience. Over 400 neighborhood children (kindergarten-5th grade) attend, dressed in their favorite costumes. UDM students in Halloween attire will distribute candy to the children and offer free face painting. The School of Dentistry also participates each year, distributing free toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss.
To prepare, UDM students will hold a Safety Street Façade Blowout Party the night before on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Fountain Lounge. Fraternities, sororities, and student groups participate in the fun evening by building facades out of cardboard boxes and paint into the late hours.
Area school children are invited to the free event. For more information regarding the event, contact UDM Student Life at 313-578-0341.
