Chemistry student receives Vivere ex Missione Award

University of Detroit Mercy recently awarded the 2011 Vivere ex Missione ('To Live the Mission') to Chemistry major Patricia Walworth of Adrian, MI. The award is given to a graduating senior who exemplifies and lives the mission of the University. Walworth graduated on May 14 with a degree in biochemistry magna cum laude (with high honors) and has received the American Institute of Chemistry Award for outstanding achievement in chemistry.

In addition to her dedication to academic achievement, she has taken active leadership roles in numerous campus organizations, notably the Pep Band and UDM’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity.  She also volunteered with Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics.

Based on her character and integrity, she was chosen to be the mentor for the Women in Science and Engineering floor in Shiple Hall and actively participates in her home Episcopal parish, especially in the outreach activities of its youth group.

The Vivere ex Missione award  is a Tiffany Mission-style lamp, encouraging each winner to continue to shine brightly and help all of us to see toward the future.
