U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade to Speak at UDM

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade will visit University of Detroit Mercy on Monday, March 21, 2011 at noon in the Fountain Lounge of the Student Center Building (McNichols Campus). McQuade will discuss topics such as Medicare fraud, immigration and other relevant criminal activities as well. Her office oversaw the indictment of former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and corruption in Detroit city government.

McQuade has served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan since Jan. 2010. Appointed by President Barack Obama, she was the first woman to hold the post. Previously, she had served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Detroit for 12 years and as an associate attorney at Butzel Long, P.C. in Detroit from 1993 to 1998. She also worked as the deputy chief of the National Security unit, working with cases involving terrorism financing, espionage, export violations and threats.

McQuade graduated from the University of Michigan in 1987 and the University of Michigan School of Law in 1991.
