Forty years ago, the very first production by the UDM Theatre Company was The Tempest. Now, four decades later, the UDM Theatre Company is concluding its season with a contemporary revival of the same play. During the play, Prospero, the Duke of Milan, uses his magical powers of illusion and manipulation to conjure a Tempest to bring redemption to his family and friends. UDM's production of The Tempest will celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s greatest work.

The Theatre Company production is directed by Andrew Huff (Hamtramck) and features professionals Dr. Arthur J Beer (Warren) as Prospero and Joel Mitchell (Detroit) as Caliban along with UDM students Michelle Renaud (Troy) as Miranda and Autumn Thiellesen (Ferndale) as Ariel.  The Tempest also features other local professionals, including Tim Jacobs (Detroit) as Alonso, Dan Jaroslaw (Detroit) as Antonio, Greg Grobis (Detroit) as Ferdinand and Keith Kalinowski (Roseville) as Gonzalo. Other students featured are Joel Frazee (Bluffton, OH) as Sebastian, Anne Di Iorio (Farmington Hills) as Stephano and Chris Jakob (Detroit) as Trinculo.

Tickets are $18 for adult admission and $9 for students. Please note: there is a $3.00 service fee per order for adult non-subscribers. Performances will take place at the Marygrove Theatre on the campus of Marygrove College, 8425 W. McNichols Rd. Detroit, MI 48221. The Theatre Company’s box office is located in Reno Hall on the University of Detroit Mercy campus. Hours of operation are noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
