25th Annual Super Bowl Ad Nauseum is Another Success

On Monday, Feb 7, University of Detroit Mercy marketing professor Michael Bernacchi hosted the 25th annual Super Bowl Ad Nauseum for over 250 high school students. At the event, students discussed their favorite TV commercials and why they thought they were effective.

Bernacchi teaches a variety of marketing classes at UDM, and is co-founder of the web site, "America's Marketing High School," found at, with Paul Galbenski of Oakland County Schools and Immersive Engineering. Both Bernacchi and Galbenski developed marketing and advertising course work related to the Super Bowl for high school teachers to use throughout the nation, which can be found on the web site.

A community service project was added to the Ad Nauseum discussion this year. The University asked every teacher and student in attendance to "Tackle Hunger" by bringing 2-4 cans to the McNichols Campus event. The collected items will be donated to Kids Against Hunger and distributed throughout Metro Detroit.

This year, students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus, Avondale High School, Hamtramck High School, Southfield Lathrup High School and Waterford Mott High School attended the event. Those schools who are unable to attend were still be able to view the Super Bowl lecture on the program's web site and vote for the most effective ad spots.

UDM also offers competitive scholarships to prospective students pursuing their undergraduate degree in marketing or related fields. The America's Marketing High School Scholarship is worth up to $1,500 per year.

Pizza, pop, and snacks were donated by Pizza Papalis (of Southfield). The event was open to all UDM students, faculty and staff as well as all interested high school marketing and business classes.
