Just Out of Africa: Serving in the Peace Corps in Uganda

The Carney Latin American Solidarity Archive will host Vinay D’Souza on October 27 from 1-2:15 p.m. in Briggs 310 on UDM’s McNichols Campus. This is a free event and is open to the public.

D’Souza will speak on his experiences in Uganda with a presentation titled “Just Out of Africa: Serving in the Peace Corps in Uganda.” D’Souza joined the Peace Corps and lived in Uganda from 2008-2010 where he taught math to area children. His experiences and immersion into African culture and the conditions of life in Uganda will be a major focus of the talk.

A metro Detroit native, D’Souza graduated from Sterling Heights High School in 1997 and the University of Michigan in 2001. He worked for Proctor and Gamble for the following seven years before joining the Peace Corps. He now works to share knowledge of conditions of life in Uganda and their education system.

UDM’s Carney Latin American Solidarity Archive (CLASA) and AASP are sponsoring this event. For more information, contact CLASA Director Dr. Gail Presbey at (313) 993-1124 or presbegm@udmercy.edu.
