University of Detroit Mercy’s Founders Celebration

University of Detroit Mercy is celebrating 133 years of their commitment to the City of Detroit, the metropolitan area, and the University’s founding sponsors, the Society of Jesus and the Religious Sisters of Mercy, throughout September 2010. To commemorate UDM’s longstanding history, the University has many UDM activities planned. Students, alumni and friends are welcome to join!

UDM Night at Comerica Park
Food and drinks on the private Pepsi Porch with fellow UDM students and alumni. Picnic dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and the game begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 10. $50 per person includes your ticket, dinner, one drink ticket, dessert and drinks!

UDM Nurse Anesthesia Seminar & Gala
A seminar with a great group of speakers approved for 5 hours of continuing education credit from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 11 at Motor City Casino. Topics such as anesthesia for robotic surgery, anesthesia in developing countries, clinical educator skills, and trauma and advanced cardiac care will be discussed during the seminar. A continental breakfast will be served as well as a plated lunch!

Celebrate our program’s 70th anniversary, our Program Director’s 20th year of service, and Mike Dosch earning his PhD! A cocktail reception, dinner, and dancing to live bands are in store for the Gala at Motor City Casino from 7 p.m. until 12 a.m. on Saturday, September 11.

R. Gerard Albright, S.J.’s Anniversary of teaching
There will be a noon liturgy at the St. Ignatius Chapel in the Commerce & Finance building on Sunday, September 19 to celebrate R. Gerard Albright, S.J.’s golden anniversary of teaching at our university. There will also be an open house starting at 12:30 p.m. and light refreshments served at Lansing-Reilly hall.

Celebrate Spirit!
Gather with fellow UDM students, staff and alumni on Thursday, September 23 at 11:30 a.m. in Calihan Hall for a worship service led by Rev. Gary Wright, S.J. to rededicate everyone to the UDM mission. A picnic lunch will follow at the Fisher Fountain.

Annual Titan 10 Pub Night
An annual social gathering for the graduates of the last 10 years will take place on Thursday, September 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Cheli’s Chili Bar in Dearborn.

Red Mass
On Tuesday, September 28 Saints Peter & Paul Jesuit Church will be hosting a noon liturgy. Lunch to follow at UDM School of Law’s Riverfront Campus.

Designing Sustainable Detroit-Riding Trucks, Trains, Boats and Planes to Urban Vitality
On Thursday, September 30 at 6 p.m. there will be a group of panelists at the Student Center in the McNichols Campus speaking about a sustainable Detroit. There will be a welcoming by Mayor Dave Bing. Panelists include Matthew Cullen, President, M1 Rail Project/ President & COO, Rock Enterprises, Robert Ficano, Wayne County Executive, and Melissa Roy, Senior Director, Government Relations, Detroit Regional Chamber.
