Author to Speak on Underground Railroad in Michigan

Author and noted historic preservationist Carol Mull will speak at University of Detroit Mercy about her forthcoming book, The Underground Railroad in Michigan, on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 12 noon in the Commerce & Finance Building, Room 238 on UDM’s McNichols Campus. The talk will be presented in conjunction with the “Underground Railroad” history class, taught by UDM Professor of History and Director of the Black Abolitionist Archives Roy Finkenbine.

Mull, a member of the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission, will highlight information from her book, including how many mid-nineteenth-century citizens in Michigan protested the moral offense of slavery. The book explores the abolitionist movement and the network of escape from slavery. The story is told from first person-accounts and a historical overview of national events. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
