UDM School of Law Hosts Public Interest Fellowship Auction, April 17

University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Law will host its eighth annual Public Interest Fellowship Auction on Saturday, April 17, at 7 p.m. at the Detroit Yacht Club, Belle Isle, Detroit.

This year's auction will fund several summer public interest fellowships. Since 2003, the program has provided more than 40 students with summer stipends to work for a variety of organizations that support the poor and marginalized, such as Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office, American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, Freedom House, Elder Law Center of Neighborhood Legal Services, City of Detroit Human Rights Department, National Wildlife Federation, Salvation Army’s William Booth Legal Aid Clinic, and African Women’s Lawyer’s Association in Accra, Ghana.

Over 200 items will be auctioned off during the silent auction including sports memorabilia, gift certificates and event tickets. Items to be auctioned off during the live auction include a 2-hour strolling and tasting tour of Eastern Market, a one week vacation in a 3-bedroom condo in Shanty Creek Resorts and two tickets to the Palmer Woods Music in Homes Concert.

With the help of public contributions, the auction will give UDM the opportunity to fund these valuable fellowships that allow University of Detroit Mercy law students to work for the public good of our community.
