Broadside Press presents Omari “King Wise” Barksdale
The Dudley Randall Center for Print Culture and Broadside Press Poets’ Theater will host Detroit-based slam poet Omari “King Wise” Barksdale. The free event will be held in Grounds Coffee Haus on January 17, 2010 from 3-6 p.m.
Barksdale has competed in the Detroit Slam team since 2006 and is Detroit’s Echoverse Grand Slam Champion. He has performed at over 50 universities nationwide and has shared the stage with artists such as The Last Poets and X-Clan.
The poet has worked as a Legislative Assistant for the Detroit City Council, campaigned for State Representative for the 4th district of the State Of Michigan, founded Uhuru Cipher Artists Management. He also co-founded a lecture group called “Hip-Poe-Tics” as well as the poetry group 3rd Eye Open Poetry Collective.
