Broadside Press Poets’ Theater presents Bilal Mutawassim
The Dudley Randall Center for Print Culture and Broadside Press' Poets' Theater will host Detroit poet Bilal Mutawassim. The event will be held in Grounds Coffee Haus on the October 18, 2009 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Mutawassim, a Navy veteran puts a unique spin on his poetry by using his musical talent to accompany his words. His rhythm and style are what captivates his audience. The remarkable aspect of his work is that he is self-taught on a variety of instruments.
The poet also goes by a variety of names that he uses to channel his “inner muse,” such as Detroit Bleu, AnkHeru Amen, Lord RaShango Adamah Khan, and SevenHand. His work incorporates the world of dreams, fantasies, and harsh realities. He has currently released two albums, “Gypsy Brew” and” Night Blossom,” under his name of Detroit Bleu. Mutawassim uses his daily motto for inspiration: “Time is irrelevant…there is only the compassion of the random abstract.”
