Sister Rosita Schiller, RSM '59 Receives Allied Health Award from University of Detroit Mercy
University of Detroit Mercy recently awarded the 2009 College of Health Professions’ Alumnae of the Year Allied Health Award to Sr. Rosita Schiller, RSM ’59, an international expert on nutrition and dietetics.
Schiller‘s career has encompassed positions in health care dietary management, teaching, academic administration and governance. An educator for over 35 years at University of Detroit Mercy and Ohio State University, she has an impressive career, writing and lecturing extensively, working with educators worldwide. Schiller was named Professor Emeritus from Ohio State University, having retired as professor and director of the Medical Dietetics Division, School of Allied Medical Professions at OSU. She remains active in nutrition and dietetic professional organizations.
She currently serves as Development Assistant at St. Mary Medical Center in Grand Rapids and is a valued member of governance boards for UDM, St. Mary Medical Center-Springfield, Ohio and Mount Carmel Health System-Columbus, Ohio. Schiller has received numerous other awards and recognition for her many contributions to the profession, including the award for Outstanding Education and Research from the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the prestigious ADA Medallion, and the ODA President’s Award. She was named a Fellow of the ADA as a result of her demonstrated leadership in the profession.
Schiller earned a Bachelor of Science in dietetics from Mercy College of Detroit, a Master of Science in Institutional Management and a PhD in Human Nutrition from Ohio State University.
