2009 Alternative Energy Technology Transfer Forum

The Michigan Ohio University Transportation Center (MIOH UTC) and NextEnergy will present the 2009 Alternative Energy Technology Transfer Forum on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the NextEnergy Auditorium, 461 Burroughs, Detroit, MI 48202. The results of on several MIOH and NEXT projects will be presented.

According to Dr. Leo E. Hanifin, Dean of UDM’s College of Engineering and Science and Director of Michigan Ohio University Transportation, “This forum will present important research and development results from seven projects at three universities and two corporations, all focused on important areas of alternative energy.  These results promise to unlock and deliver more of the enormous potential of alternative and renewable energy that is so important to our region’s economic vitality and our nation’s energy independence.”

The subjects of these presentations range from mitigating and eliminating the corrosive behavior of biodiesel and understanding pollution of buses . . .from improving vehicle efficiency through hydraulic hybrid technology and education to reducing NOx emissions and improving the production processes and the quality of biofuels,” he added.

Hanifin explained that the event and the results that will be presented are manifestations of the uniquely effective collaboration of industry, government and academia that is occurring right here in Southeastern Michigan at NextEnergy and the Michigan Ohio University Transportation Center.

The event will cover the following research:

  • the chemistry, additives, sources, stability and emissions of biodiesel fuels
  • exhaust after treatment NOx reduction additive function and handling (tentative)
  • hydraulic hybrid development and applications
  • modules to teach hydraulic hybrid technology

Through support from the US Department of Transportation and the Michigan Department of Transportation, this event is offered free of charge to all attendees.  To RSVP or receive a full agenda email: Pat Martinico at: martinpa@udmercy.edu or call, 313-993-1216.
