United States Basketball Writers Association Host Sports Writing Seminar at UDM

The 2009 NCAA Final Four, the United States Basketball Writers Association and University of Detroit Mercy are hosting a sports writing seminar on Thursday, April 2, 2009 from 9 to 11 a.m. on UDM’s McNichols Campus.

The event will feature many of  the beat’s biggest names including journalist John Feinstein of The Washington Post, The Sporting News and NPR; Dick Jerardi of the Philadelphia Daily News; John Akers of the Basketball Times; Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal; Dana O'Neil of espn.com; Dick Weiss of the New York Daily News; Shannon Shelton of the Detroit Free Press; and Malcolm Moran, formerly of USA Today and The New York Times.

Admission is free for college and high school journalists but registration is required for those who would like to attend. Students will be given the opportunity to cover various aspects of the tournament and through their stories competing for the association’s $1,000 scholarship in the days following the seminar. The majority of the assignments will be for press conferences and ancillary events.
