UDM community called to save lives
University of Detroit Mercy students, faculty, staff and alumni are participating with other area college students in the annual “Gift of Life” Campus Challenge, a six-week contest to see which college or university can raise the most awareness, by signing up the most participants on the Michigan Organ Donor Registry. Sign up for UDM now!
Students will be using social networking and electronic messaging methods to reach other students, faculty, alumni and supporters to sign up for Michigan’s online Donor Registry. There will be a donor drive station located on each campus, which will also distribute flyers and posters for the event.
“The energy and enthusiasm that University of Detroit Mercy students bring to the Campus Challenge is refreshing,” said Beth Ann Dalrymple, last year’s valedictorian at UDM and “Gift of Life” Michigan volunteer and recipient. “Organ donation is all about the continuation of life, offering hope to others in need. University of Detroit Mercy was founded on the principal of service to others and I cannot think of a better way for the UDM community to come together and show Michigan who we are. We are Titans and we have heart,” Dalrymple said.
Since it began years ago, the “Gift of Life” Campus Challenge has quickly become one of the most successful organ donation outreach programs in the nation. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recognized the group for their outstanding achievements. “Gift of Life” is Michigan’s only full service tissue recovery and donor organization, with collaboration with the Michigan Eye Bank, providing organ, tissue and eye donation.
Visitors can sign up on the Donor Registry and credit University of Detroit Mercy at the Gift of Life Michigan web site now. By signing up for the Donor Registry, you can save a life. You can see UDM's progress in the competition at the standings web page.
