When the University of Detroit Mercy selection committee was choosing former athletes for the UDM Hall of Fame's Class of 2010, Rashad Phillips was an easy choice. As one of the school's all-time great basketball players, there was no debate regarding the merit of Phillips' candidacy. The former Ferndale High School star ended his college career in 2001 as UDM's all-time leading scorer, a two-time Player of the Year in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference and the recipient of the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award.
