It may be the sign of the times. With unemployment rising and tough economic times, anything that is free will draw a crowd. Saturday it was free dental care at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. The Michigan Department of Community Health set up the clinic to provide free dental care and oral health education for adults in need of emergency services.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and UDM Director of Athletics Keri Gaither announced today that the Detroit Titans men's lacrosse program has been accepted as an affiliate member of the MAAC Lacrosse League, beginning with the 2010 season. "I am excited about the University of Detroit Mercy's men's lacrosse program becoming an affiliate member of the MAAC," said Gaither. "The MAAC has a rich tradition of athletic and academic excellence by all of its member institutions and these factors were extremely important to the Detroit Titans athletic program as we looked for a good conference fit. I am proud that our men's lacrosse team will be a part of the MAAC tradition."

Myszkowski had spent more than 20 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in Detroit, ending up as finance manager.

At its annual Honors Convocation last month, the University of Detroit Mercy selected Brittney DeLuca of Jackson to receive the Dean's undergraduate scholar award. The award recognizes undergraduates who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better for the first term of this academic year. Detroit Mercy is the largest private Catholic university in Michigan.
